Workshop Lodging & Travel

The 2018 Wilderness Workshop is being held in Gunnison, Colorado, from October 9-13.  Gunnison is a mountain town located in the south-central Colorado Rockies.  The location is picturesque and surrounded by wilderness.  Gunnison is accessed by car or bus, with flights servicing Denver, Alamosa, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, and Gunnison itself.  Information is included below to help you make travel plans including lodging packages and transportation options.  To REGISTER for the Wilderness Workshop, click here.  To read more INFORMATION on the agenda and content, click here.

LODGING - HOTELS

Group lodging rates have been secured at the Econo Lodge Gunnison and at the Quality Inn.  Rates and contact information are as follows: 

Econo Lodge Gunnison - Double or Single Room - $65/night + Tax.  To make reservations at this rate, please call the Econo Lodge Gunnison at (970) 641-3068 and mention "National Wilderness Workshop" when booking.  To receive these discounted rates, reservations must be made no later than October 6th at 4:00 pm Mountain Time.

Quality Inn - Double Queen Room - $80/night + Tax or Single King Room - $90/night + Tax.  To make reservations at this rate, please call the Quality Inn at (970) 641-1237 and mention "National Wilderness Workshop" when booking.  To receive these discounted rates, reservations must be made no later than September 25th at 4:00 pm Mountain Time.

LODGING - CAMPING & HOSTELS

Plenty of lodging options outside of hotels exist.  The IBar Ranch is holding camping open for National Wilderness Workshop participants, hostels are available in nearby Gunnison and Crested Butte, and the Gunnison KOA offers tent, rv, and cabin camping.

IBar Ranch - Tent Camping - $10/night.  There are no RV hookups, but there are bathrooms and water.  To make reservations at these rates, please email Tyler Lee and mention "I Bar Ranch Camping for National Wilderness Workshop" when booking.

AIRPORT - DENVER

At the airport you can use the A line rail service to get to Denver Union Station. They leave every hour from the airport, and costs $9, you must have exact change, as they do not accept credit cards or give change back. The ride is an average of 37 minutes. At Denver Union Station you can purchase a Greyhound bus ticket for around $37. You will catch a ride on the Arrow/Black Hills Stage Line, they leave once a day at 1:45pm, and arrive in Gunnison at 6:50pm.  You will get off at the Econo Lodge on Tomichi Ave., across the way from Western State Colorado University.

*You can purchase a round trip ticket from the Black Hills Stage line for around $73. 

The bus leaves every day from Gunnison at 6:15am in front of the parking lot of Chipeta/Pinnacles apartments, on the west side of campus, 400 N. Colorado St. The cost is around $37, and can be bought here, https://webstore.blackhillsstagelines.com/.  You can also purchase a ticket at the Econo Lodge on Tomichi Ave.  The bus will arrive at the Denver Union Station at 11am.  From there you can take the A line rail service back to DIA.  The train to the airport leaves every 15-30 minutes from the terminal, and the cost is $9 (you will need exact change).

AIRPORT - GRAND JUNCTION

At the Grand Junction Regional Airport you can use the taxi service to get to the Grand Junction Bus Station at 230 South 5th Street. Buses to Gunnison leave only one time per day, at 2:15 AM, and costs about $32. The ride is an average of 16 hours and 20 minutes and arrives in Gunnison at 6:35pm.  You will get off at the Econo Lodge at 411 East Tomichi Ave., across Tomichi Avenue (US Hiqhway 50) from Western State Colorado University.

The bus leaves every day from Gunnison at 6:15am at the Econo Lodge at 411 East Tomichi Ave. The cost is about $27. You will arrive at the Grand Junction Bus Station at 230 South 5th Street at 5:25 PM. You can take a taxi from this location to the Grand Junction Regional Airport.
